For decades Michael Jackson had proven that he was one of the most gifted performers in the music industry. Five of his albums are within the top sellers list, but aside from his Remix album, Blood on the Dance Floor, only one of his albums didn’t make the 20 Million copies+ club. That album was Invincible- the final album to be released while he was still living.
Many insult this album as being a failure…Over ten million units sold is not a failure. Not by a long shot. But the problem was: this was Michael Jackson- a man who was supposed to consistently sell tens of millions of albums. But, since he wasn’t given a chance to create his music videos (Only one released was You Rock My World) or embark on a world tour Michael was left without his standard methods of marketing. That didn’t stop Invincible from being a solid-selling album.
Songs
Unbreakable – An electric start to the album. Like lots of the King of Pop’s later work this is one focused on the way the media constantly tried to destroy him. The beat is great and the lyrics are strong.
Heartbreaker – Sounds like a good club song. Complete with good chorus and toe tapping beat.
Invincible – The title song is certainly good, having a great opening beat. Not his best chorus, but calling the lyrics in a Michael Jackson song “bad” is like asking if the Beatles had a worst song.
Break of Dawn – A catchy, slower paced song is very enjoyable song for romantic moods- Especially for club and dance settings.
Heaven Can Wait – Another slow paced song. Soft-spoken, and quite romantic. Michael continued to prove his ability to right effective love songs for any mood.
You Rock My World – Michael’s last hit whilst still living the song is defiantly a favorite. This CD starts off with a humorous exchange between Michael and actor Chris Tucker (Rush Hour) before going into what could arguably be the album’s best song.
Butterflies – This sweet love song was Michael Jackson’s personal favorite of the Invincible album. It’s instrumentals are calming and give you a great sense of ease.
2000 Watts – This intense, manic tech song is Michael like you’ve never heard him before! This is the deepest-voiced singing the King of Pop has delivered to date. If you don’t believe this is Jackson listen several times carefully- or look up an audio of the song played at a higher pitch if your naked ear can’t catch it.
You Are My Life – And what is this? Another romance song! Michael sure was feeling romantic during this album’s production- which is good, because the man knew how to write convincing, believable lyrics that truly are the essence of human nature and emotion.
Privacy – Maybe not the best arrangement to have come straight after a soft-spoken, sweet song like You Are My Life, because Privacy is perhaps the angriest song to feature the King of Pop. This is a tone of voice you are not used to hearing from the usually soft-spoken, sweet Jackson. It is a response to tabloid articles about him and the paparazzi that swarmed him and is one of the rare glimpses we get of Jackson’s angrier side.
Don’t Walk Away – A fine, emotional song which seems to opposite of Privacy before it. This song is about the loss of someone close to him, and it is a very emotionally paced, written, and sung. Jackson’s voice once again proves it can pluck every emotional string of his listeners.
Cry – Another in Jackson’s lifelong journey into writing ballads about suffering and taking action to change the world for the better. Has nice pacing, but isn’t Earth Song, or Man in the Mirror by a long shot- but still good.
The Lost Children – Due to Jackson’s charges (that he was proven innocent of on all counts) this song has often been the butte of harsh jokes. Regardless, the song is beautiful, and if anything confirms that Jackson was incapable of harming anyone- let alone a child. It is a song full of compassion and love!
Whatever Happens – Another good song, with a more string filled instrumental background. The beat is kept by maracas and the plucking and strumming of string instruments (a Spanish guitar I reckon is in there) which gives it a sound unlike any previous Jackson song. It gives it a more exotic feel than his other songs.
Threatened – In the fashion of Thriller, Ghosts, and Is It Scary Michael Jackson returns to horror-based lyrics in what is one of my personal favorites. This is obviously one that intended to complete a horror trilogy of short films for Jackson because no expense was spared. The song is very techno in sound and in the tradition of Thriller they have an iconic voice give narration. The voice is compiled speeches of the deceased Rod Serling (The Twilight Zone) woven together in a form of rap similar to the one given by Vincent Price in Thriller.
Due to poor marketing, disputes with Sony Music, and the media enjoying their assault on Michael’s person kept this fine piece of work from selling. This album proves that Jackson was continuing to grow as an artist and constantly trying out new techniques as the music world around him changed. This is a man who continued to innovate and change himself and that is something that we never see these days. Invincible was an admirable effort that was so sadly overlooked at the time.

While many critics with “trained ears” are being unecessarily hard on MJ for this album, his die hard fans will definetely appreciate his momentum.
The truth is that there is nothing new on this album. The fact that MJ is the greatest entertainer in the world is not a new idea. However MJ does explore the realm of R&B heavily in this album.
The first track, “Unbreakable”, is high energy with a lot of Hip Hop beats including a rap from the late Biggie Smalls. This occurs too for “Unbreakable” and “Invincible”, which feature the new talent of Fats.
Mike starts his ballads with “Break of Dawn” and “Heaven Can Wait”. These two songs are definitely reminescent of Mike’s “Lady in My Life” days.
In “2000 Watts” and “Privacy”, Rodney Jerkins produced himself into a flurry. These fast-paced, highly mechanic songs are genius.
“Whatever Happens” includes a guitar solo by the wonderful Carlos Santana. Hearing these two legends perform together is simply magical.
And finally, “Threatened” is “Thriller” for 2001. MJ does like to scare people.
While Invincible is heavily populated with famous producers, and does sound like the workings of artists like Usher, and Ginuwine, there is no mistaking that this sort of brilliance can only come from the King of Pop.

So this is Michael’s first real studio album since 1995′s HISTORY 2 CD set (the second disc was a new album). We saw BLOOD ON THE DANCEFLOOR in 1997, but basically that was a remixed HISTORY with a few new tracks. So here it is, 6 years fans have been waiting. A few questions come to mind. 1. Was it worth the wait? 2. Will Michael make a comeback? 3. Is the album good? I can honestly answer all three questions with a resounding YES!
INVINCIBLE is a 16 track, 77 minute album, filled with top production and innovation in music. Michael has once again created a new sound, this time by working with hot producer Rodney Jerkins, other producers include Teddy Riley, Dr. Freeze, Andre Harris, Babyface, and R. Kelly. Together, Michael has created a fresh new sound for R&B, and I’m sure others will follow his lead here.
The album starts off strong with three uptempo songs. “Unbreakable” is a nice album opener, it’ll get you hoppin’ to the dancefloor. It features a sample rap by The Notorious B.I.G. “Heartbreaker” is a catchy uptempo song, perfect for the clubs, a surefire hit if released. The title track is another great song. Then are two ballads, both beautifully written arranged and sang, “Break of Dawn”, and “Heaven Can Wait”.
“You Rock My World”, the first single is a hit in its own right, its catchy, the vocals are smooth and irresistible, you can’t help but groove to the music on this one. “Butterflies”, the planned second single, shows Michael on a soulful type song, very beautiful, one of the album’s many highlights. Perhaps one of the biggest standouts on the album is “2000 Watts”, cowritten by Tyrese, it’s an irresistible dance song, perfect for the clubs, and Michael’s voice is very deep in this song, very different from any of his other songs.
The album has other fine moments, really there is no filler here. I was disapointed after the album was pushed back further and further, from 1999, to 2000, to 2001, and finally its out. Well its safe to say it was worth the wait. He has created probably one of the best new albums of the new millenium, with a fresh new sound. Where he used to yell a lot in his songs to show anger, this album shows him in a happier mood with soulful vocals that are so smooth and addictive. Give this one a try you won’t be disapointed!

INVINCIBLE by Michael Jackson was originally released in October 2001, and as I recall, even before it came out, so-called music critics were hating on it and declaring it a flop. How in the world they could have done this, I don’t know. If anything, they were rating his personal life rather than the music and that hardly seems fair, because I believe the music should speak for itself. Granted, Mike has his problems, but the fact that he is an musical icon, the most influential and gifted entertainer to surface in the past 30+ years, and a consistent hit maker cannot be ignored. I guess this CD is considered a flop merely because it didn’t sell as well as his other albums. But it shows how much of an exceptionally talented individual he is when critics can only compare INVINCIBLE to other MJ albums and not to anything or anybody else. That’s saying a lot – meaning that even with a so-called “flop”, MJ is STILL better than anyone else out there and can only compete with himself!
While INVINCIBLE is not in the league of OFF THE WALL, THRILLER, BAD or even DANGEROUS, it is still a solid effort from Michael, featuring both funky, upbeat dance tracks and warm, effective ballads. He updates his sound with some touches of hip-hop, but also taps deeper into his R&B roots here and I’m so happy that he did because he actually SINGS instead of relying on “whoos”, “oows”, “eee-hees”, “sham-ons” and hiccups so much to get through a song, which I never really cared for. I’ve always felt those signature ad-libs that Mike would utter on the songs he made during his post-THRILLER years took away from the fact that he is a truly fabulous vocalist. Just listen to the neo-soul groove of the pristine and ethereal “Butterflies”, the best song on this CD, and you’ll understand what I mean. When I first heard it, it reminded me of the beauty of the albums that Mike and his brothers recorded when they were at Motown – then the CBS stuff (THE JACKSONS, GOIN’ PLACES, DESTINY, and OFF THE WALL), not so much by the sound of it, but when Mike simply SUNG and you enjoyed his interpretations and magnificent phrasing of the lyrics. There are plenty of tunes on this CD that measure up to that standard.
Best tracks: “Unbreakable”, “Heartbreaker”, “Invincible”, “Break Of Dawn”, “Heaven Can Wait”, “You Rock My World”, “Butterflies”, “2000 Watts”, “Don’t Walk Away”, “Whatever Happens”.
Shame on Sony for not giving this the promotion it deserved! We all know that it was a ploy to get their hands on the invaluable Beatles catalog (for those who don’t know – Mike owns it), saying that INVINCIBLE went way over budget and the money wasn’t there to complete it…whatever. Other than “You Rock My World”, they didn’t bother to promote anything else from this CD, most specifically, “Butterflies” – no video, nothing – and this was Mike’s strongest single in years. They purposely wanted it to fail. I applaud Mike for sticking to his guns and not selling the catalog.
There are a couple songs on this CD that didn’t work for me, but all in all, this is worth owning. INVINCIBLE proves that Michael Jackson still has much to offer the music industry. All we need to do is give him a chance to do that, because once you put aside all the drama, you’ll find that his music still has the ability to move people. Great job, Mike!

I’m a HUGE MJ fan and I think Invincible is an amazing album, regardless of whatever the haters have to say and whether they want to admit it or not. What do people really want from Mike? Really? Would they have been happy if he released Thriller again and called it a “new” album. How could they expect that after almost 20 years that they’d get something as good as the Thriller album? Quit being so demanding and asking so much from a 43 year old man, who’s ideas and thoughts have evolved since his Billy Jean and Don’t stop Till You Get Enough era. What do you think, he wants to be singing to the beat of Smooth Criminal and Rock With You all his life? No, because people change and so do the times. I’m sure you’ve changed and don’t think the same you did 5 years ago (much less 20 years agos). But the media, tabloids and critics always love you when you’re down, and hate you when you’re on top (they always have to find something bad to say even if it means lying). I’m so sick of seeing Michael Jackson be subject to hatred and jealousy, which he’s probably so used to by time now.
Personally, I think Invincible is truely Incredible. It has such beautiful songs on it. One that really stands out in my mind is Heaven Can Wait. It’s such a sweet song, I loved it immediately when I first heard it. It’s the type of song you’d want your significant other to sing to you. This song sounds like it’s coming from someone deeply in love. You’ll be hooked! Unbreakable is an upbeat, “get up and dance” kind of song. It’s also very impowering when you are surrounded by negative energy. It’ll make you dance and feel good. Invincible and Heartbreaker are also good upbeat songs to tune into, talking about when love goes bad. Speechless is so beautifully sung starting acapela and then you hear Mike sing with a beat and then it ends acapela, proving that Michael’s still got it ( that wonderful voice of his and musical ability). A very nice love song with a spiritual side to it! The album also has some Heal The World type songs, like The Lost Children and Cry. The only song I really can’t seem to like is 2000 watts… too N’syncish. But it’s a song you can dance to.
Michael is and STILL is the one and only KING OF POP! He’s done it again…. Better recognize! Now go out and buy that album, won’t you?

Ok, so many are quick to jump on the band wangon and call the man washed-up or just weird..fine. But we were always told to never judge a book by it’s cover–Invinicible is what MJ fans have come to expect from their King- classic pop cuts, mainstream hybrid of rock rap and RnB, and coutless “he he” and “whoos” In a whole this cd is great. Take Butterfiles…this song reminds me of old school Mike, when it was cool to like Michael Jackson. Heaven Can’t Wait, Whatever Happens, which is a pop masterpiece, unlike ANYTHING out there, and Santana rips it along side Mike. You Rock My World is a classic Jackson tune, sharp, sweet and full of funk. The production on this album is flawless, almost prestine, which is another factor we’ve come to expect from the King of Pop. He has the mojo and star power to comand whatever and whoever he wants, and they come! Rodney Jerkins, R-Kelly the Late B.I.G, Santana, Brandy, Fats, David Foster and Babyface to name a few. Sony should see that with proper media attention, this cd would have gone on to sell much more then a did. And what a shame the world will never hear “What More Can I Give” a wonderful, heartfelt tribute to the 9-11. Featuring the who’s who in Pop music..Reba Macintire, Justin Timerlake, Gloria Estefan Juan Gabiel, Shakria, Julio Iglsieas, Jon Secada, Alejandro Sanz, Celine Dion, and on on and on…Who else can command that star power in two languages! Truly a remarkable man, with remarkable lifestyle that tend to overshadow his true passion–Music!

Okay, let’s go. Don’t believe the paparazzi, this is certainly an amazing album that didn’t get the respect it deserved. But it’s Michael Jackson, so these he’ll never get the respect he deserves from the press. But screw the press, here’s the fan’s review.
Unbreakable-A good way to start the album. Hits you hard and gets you in a dancing mood. The rap by the late Biggie Smalls is the perfect addition. And kicks off the album with a header.
Heartbreaker-A good song. Bringing Michael back to his older style in which he sang about love, or girls, reminds you a little of Dirty Diana, just without the rock undertone. The rap compliments it a bit, but wasn’t necessary.
Invincible-Sounds similar to the first song, and verges on getting a bit boring, but fear not, still inherits a good beat to bob your head to.
Break of Dawn-Nice slower song, only thing is it’s just kinda funny to think of Michael as a sex symbol. But it doesn’t hurt anything. And makes for a good intro to the next song.
Heaven Can Wait-A pretty song, a nice love ballad that would make for a good wedding song. About love, and the girl you’d give up heaven for.
You Rock my World-Perhaps the best song on the album. Not just because it’s a single, but with the funny intro by Chris Tucker, the instrumentals, the dance flow, and Michael’s vocals make this possibly another timeless classic.
Butterflies-I really like this song. Released on the radio, but never a video. The rhythm makes for a good slow dance. And acts as a bridge from the previous song into…
Speechless-…this track. Another lovely ballad. His voice sounds a little extra golden on this track for whatever reason. With an acapella intro, nice instrumentals, and would make for a great Valentine’s Day song.
2000 Watts-This is one of the only low points on the album in my opinion. He sings with a very low voice, and it’s actually kinda hard to tell it’s him singing. But it’s a pretty good dance song. Sounds more like something *NSYNC would do.
You Are My Life-Another pretty Love ballad. Similar to Heaven Can Wait, but naturally with it’s own unique qualities.
Privacy-Heavily rock induced track featuring the one and only SLASH!!! But it’s across a message that you can’t help but agree with. Michael does need his privacy. We all do, and I think he’s earned more than some others.
Don’t Walk Away-By now you may think this album should be called, “Michael in Love” because here we have another lovely ballad. What more can I say than that. Similar again to Heaven Can Wait. I like it instantly.
Cry-Another R.Kelly written track. Like “You Are Not Alone” is tender and grows to a powerful gospel like climax. I heard there was a video made for it, but I never saw it. I’m sure it had some of that same artisty that Heal the World has.
The Lost Children-A ballas with a similar message as found on Earth Song showing Michael’s love for children. And you know what I mean by that, so don’t start. Some might call it cheesy, but I like the song.
Whatever Happens-Somewhat latin influenced, especially with it featuring Carlos Santana. But a good song, a little bit about losing someone than gaining them. Good for the near end of the album.
Threatened-A heavy ending to a great comeback album. Song somewhat boasting Michael’s king of the world musical ego. Another good final dance song.
So there you have it, with 7 years gone by, this album is a breath of fresh air. Michael shouldn’t be discouraged by the critics and the press, I could only hope he’ll try to do it again next year, or as soon as he can. Believe the review, and check it out for yourself.

The 2001 comeback of Michael Jackson is still fresh in my head. Although Sony did a crappy job with very minimum promotion, You Rock My World was a song I was constantly hearing blasting from cars, on the radio, and in the club. It made it to #10 in just 3 weeks based on radio play alone. When the album finally came out October 30, I left school during study hall to go pick up the CD I’d been waiting for forever it seemed, and at first listen I was surprised that it wasn’t as edgy as Dangerous or HIStory, or the memorable sounds on Thriller and Bad, but I gave it a chance and appreciated the r&b-flavoured style that he experimented with on this CD. It also got me interested in buying Off the Wall and updating my collection with jackson 5 and jacksons records. Anyways back to Invincible, his voice really stood out on this CD and there is a lot of musical diversity on the CD ranging from r&b/hip hop, soft ballads, adult contemporary ballads and several dance/pop pieces here and there. There is definitely a song for everyone to enjoy, no matter what age on this CD, and should have gotten more credit. It did sell 10 million worldwide after all, You Rock My World got several awards at the NAACP image awards as well as a grammy nomination, and Butterflies was all over the Billboard r&b/hip hop year end charts in 2002. I love the attitude in Unbreakable, the textured dance rhythm in Heartbreaker, the instruments in Invincible, the melody and music in Break of Dawn, the vibes in Heaven Can Wait, the music melody and dance rhythm in You Rock My World, the smooth honey-butter vibe in Butterflies, the innocence of speechless, the pounding beats in 2000 watts, the guitars in you are my life, the anger in privacy(which I’m sure many mj fans like myself can relate to currently), the sadness in don’t walk away, the pianos melody and choir in Cry, the music and melody in lost children, the guitar rhythm and instruments in whatever happens, and the mystery and magic of threatened. Just give this album a chance if you haven’t already. So what if it’s not like the other albums? Which mj albums are like one another anyways? Whenever he comes back with an album, it’s always fresh, different, creative and very different from the last. I’m pretty sure some current artists have also been musically inspired by Invincible in this decade too, so much for being an “invisible flop” don’t listen to the media, go buy this now!

I admit I haven’t listened to a whole lot of MJ’s songs but I have heard all his popular old jams and this CD is a bit different. Still I don’t know what the editor was listening to when he heard this album but I enjoyed it. Obviously he listened to this album ready to criticize it and he did that well.
If you’re like me and just pop this in and drive or relax whatever – you’ll love it. Maybe if the editor did this, he would actually enjoy it.
There are some tight trax on this album and right off the bat, my favs are in order
1. “Break of Dawn” – this is a beautiful song! – it should’ve been a single.
2. “2000 Watts” Baby – a jammming track – real tight!!!
3. “Whatever Happens” – excellent romantic song! Smooth song.
4. “Butterflies” – if you’ve ever been in love you can relate to this one! – exceptional song!
5. Others
“Heaven can wait”, “Unbreakable”, “Invincible”, “Heartbreaker” are all cool and worht the listen – I can’t put those in order – they are all my 5th favorites.
6. “Threatened” – cool beat on this one would fit perfectly on any of his old albums esp. “Thriller”
7. “Don’t walk away”, “Butterflies” – other romantic tracks – sounds like the old mike on these.
8. “Privacy” – you’ll be singing along with this one bofore it’s done.
9. “You rock my world”, “Speechless” – heard too much of “You rock my world” and I KNOW you all heard it!
I don’t care too much for “Cry” nor “The lost children”
Screw it my order doesn’t seem to right – cuz this is a solid Multi-Platinum album!

I really like this album. It’s worth buying just for Rock My World and Butterflies. Butterflies is amazing and a totally new sound. Rock my World gets me dancing – I keep playing it. Worth listening to the whole album – seems like Michael’s voice has improved since Dangerous and the beat is less intrusive. The two songs I mentioned stand up against his older work, and alot of the others do too.
I totally disagree with the Amazon editor review – just about every song is good and they are ultra-romantic. In fact, it’s pure bliss from Break of Dawn until Butterflies. His voice really comes through on all of the tracks. The only one I am not crazy about is Speechless, but Cry is awesome and Whatever Happens too.
Ever since Michael’s death, I’ve been listening to his music non-stop. I had for the most part disregarded it for the past 20 years (except via radio play, etc.), but now that I hear it again – I am captivated. His music is like a work of art you want to hang on your wall – something you can really enjoy. And hearing all of it, you pick-up on the Motown roots with the funky beats and harmonies. Jackson tried to make every song danceable or meaningful and I appreciate that. Re-listening to it, I am excited about music again – which I haven’t been in quite some time.

The critics have put this album down for the only reason that it is Michael Jackson and the critics don’t like him. If any other artist had done this album this album would be praised because it is the best album of the new century.
When Mike does a song were he speaks his mind and is angry, the critics say that he is too aggresive. When Mike does a slow song critics say that he is too mushy and soft. When he does a song in between they just say that Mike is caught up in the past and must move on.
There is only 1 let down on this album and that is “The Lost Children.” Besides this song the album is flawless and is brilliant. The album is mainly an R&B album except for the 2000 Watts. Mike has hired out R&B producer Rodney Jerkins who is the best in the game. People are saying that Mike is back. I honestly think that he never left. He has never made a bad album. (Blood On The Dance Floor was a remix cd not an album and it is a brilliant remix cd.)
Mike maintains his form with songs such as Unbreakable, Heartbreaker, You Rock My World, Threatened. He has still got the gift of the melodey with songs such as Heaven Can Wait, Butterflies, Speechless, You Are My Life & Cry.
People are saying that Invincible has flopped but it didn’t really. It went to number 1 in more than 10 countries. It sold 3 million copies in 4 days which makes it his fastest selling album ever. The reason why sales suddenly dropped is because SONY music stopped marketing and promoting it. In fact they hardly really even started promoting it. If this album had been promoted as much as Dangerous was I am 100% sure that it would have hit 6 platinium by now but instead it has stopped at 2 platinium and has dropped from ever single chart in the world.
To rap everything up I just have one more thing to say. MICHAEL JACKSON IS STILL THE KING OF POP. In fact he should be the KING OF R&B because this is his true music type.
i always remember the music of Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine. great music!.~,,
i really miss the 80s music with Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine
i love the 80′s music and Gloria Estefan is one of the reasons why i love the 80′s music.
in the 80s, the best singer is of course Gloria Estefan. she has that unique sounding voice.
